thought you might enjoy experiencing a Barton and Barton vacation through the
eyes and the anecdotes of some of our clients. So we're inviting those who've visited Tuscany and Ireland to share their favorite memories of these unique places in words and pictures. Watch this page for personal highlights of some memorable vacations as well as links to more complete travel diaries... Westcove House...March, 2005
Westcove House truly offered my family "One Hundred Thousand Welcomes"! From breakfast overlooking the countryside to sing-alongs in front of the peat fire, this was our most memorable vacation ever.
Barton & Barton gave us all the information we needed to enjoy our stay...from travel suggestions to what clothes to bring. The accommodations suited our large group perfectly, providing separate space for the adults and the "younger" set. We plan on making it an annual event that will bring our geographically scattered family together in one wonderful place... Cindy & Francis & Family (Joanna, Clarissa & Melanie)
Tuscany...March, 2004
In March 2004 four members of the Gadsby's Tavern Museum Society Executive Board with the expert help of another member of the Board took off for an adventure in Italy. Our journey began with the excellent planning done by the US East Coast representatives of Invitation to Tuscany.com current & former GTMS Board members Hugh and Barbara Barton.
Having no particular places in mind, the Bartons guided us to select La Maranna in Montemarcello just south of La Spezia high above the Ligurian Coast. This artistically renovated villa was charming and full of surprises for us.
Thanks to the excellent arrangements of our official contact (and Hugh's cousin) Alex, we were able to visit the nearby marble quarries and workshops of Carrara -- where Michaelangelo picked out the stone he needed for his statutes.
Our second villa is in a small, ancient hilltop town where you park at the bottom of the hill and take an elevator up to a very revitalized little one street town called Casole d'Elsa in the Siena area of Tuscany. Christine, the British owner of Il Tramonto (Sunset) made us most welcome with a bottle of wine to start us off.
Christine also owns the gourmet bistro at the heart of town, l'Osteria del Caffe Casolani. We enjoyed several meals there including a memorable wine and cheese tasting evening.
